Birthed through the ever-changing ecosystem of ballroom, Naarm/Melbourne based DJ ATARANGI draws heavy influence from the queer underground scene in their homeland of Aotearoa by way of New York City to inform a sound touched by many, perfected by few. Celebrated as a master of emergence, ATARANGI crafts sets that defy predictability, characterized by high-energy spontaneity that has cemented their status as a cornerstone of the Pacific club circuit. By bending the fabric from which sonic connection is formed, he weaves together sonic threads from techno, to baile funk; creating a complex, one-of-a-kind tapestry of sound.

As well as being a staple in the ballroom community across the Pacific, he also helps run, facilitate, and DJ the iconic Tāmaki Makaurau-based queer club night and record label NYMPHO – dedicating their collective practice to sexual liberation and gender euphoria on and off the dance floor.

ATARANGI has lit up stages across Aotearoa and Australia, performing alongside LSDXOXO, Overmono, Nia Archives, and more. From 121 Festival to Boiler Room Sydney, and VIVID at the Sydney Opera House to Beyond the Valley, his high-octane sets and boundary-pushing energy have made waves. He’s played iconic B2Bs with Surusinghe, Skin on Skin, and Chippy Nonstop, and sold out marathon six-hour sets for NYMPHO and House of Mince.
